Mcdonald’s Canada Announces ‘Snapplications’ Hiring Event in Collaboration with Snapchat

McDonald’s will become Canada’s first employer to use Snapchat’s “Snapplications” hiring process.

According to a McDonald’s Canada in an email to iPhone in Canada, everyone’s favourite fast food joint is launching its “Snapplications” endeavour, “a one-day virtual hiring event that will allow millions of job seekers to instantly apply for a career at McDonald’s restaurants through the Snapchat app.”

Next week, on Wednesday, March 27th, Snapchat users will notice a specific McDonald’s “lens” on the app through which they can record a 30-second clip of themselves describing why they would be the perfect McDonald’s employee. The clip will then be sent directly to the McDonald’s Canada hiring portal.

“We wanted to offer a convenient and flexible application process to attract more young people through our one-day virtual hiring event,” says Stephanie Hardman, Chief People Officer at McDonald’s Canada. “From youth applying for their first jobs, to experienced candidates, Snapplications is a new and exciting way for people to kick-start a career at McDonald’s Canada.”

According to the press release, McDonald’s Canada is one of the largest youth employers in the country — 83 percent of its nearly 100,000 employees are millennials.

McDonald’s Canada‘s newest hiring effort with Snapchat isn’t the only way the international fast food giant is leveraging new technology to create innovative branding strategies — later this month it will be announcing a partnership with Google Voice, allowing users to “discover local offers available in the MyMcD’s app through asking their Google voice-activated devices.”

“As a leader in the Quick-Service industry, we know that technology is a critical driver of success. Our partnerships with Snapchat and Google Voice are examples of how we’re bringing first-to-market innovation to our guests,” explained Lara Skripitsky, Chief Technology Officer at McDonald’s Canada.
