Lost your iPhone? You may have trouble paying your Apple Card bill.
As a new report from BuzzFeed News explains, the Apple Card exists, at least in part, to keep you locked into the iOS ecosystem. The only way to access your balance, your transaction history, and even your ability to pay your bills is through the Wallet app on your iPhone.
While this might make sense in theory, if you lose your iPhone or, even worse, someone steals it, there’s no web portal from which to pay your bills. Users simply aren’t able to make payments online without an iPhone.
“There are no paper statements with the digital-first Apple Card,” reads the report. “Unlike a traditional credit card, everything is accessed through the Wallet app on the iPhone, including transaction histories, total balances, previous statements, and payments. There’s no website to view the latest transactions made on the card or make a payment if you lose access to that Wallet app.”
There are two ways users can pay their Apple Card bill: one can use their iPad or another iOS device to gain access to the Wallet app. Next, users can follow the simple process to make Apple Card payments.
Alternatively, users can seek help from Apple Support. One can place a call and talk to Apple Support representative, who will then connect you with a Goldman Sachs Apple Card expert.
While talking to the Goldman Sachs specialist, you will be required to share your full name, date of birth, last four digits of your social security number, and the phone number connected with your account. You will then be able to make an Apple Card payment over the phone.
In comparison, every other bank offers users with two different ways to pay their credit card bills — either through their mobile app or website. While paying the outstanding Apple Card bill right from the Wallet app on your iPhone offers a great user experience, it does not take into account those scenarios where you don’t have access to your phone.
