Apple Music App Now Available on 2018 and Later Samsung Smart TVs

Apple is slowly opening up its music streaming service to more platforms.

Samsung announced that it’s bringing an Apple Music app to its Smart TVs, marking the first time that the service has been available on a third-party TV solution, reads a new report from The Verge.

The new app, available today in over 100 countries on Samsung Smart TVs released from 2018 through 2020, will allow Apple Music subscribers to stream and play their music and Beats 1 radio on their televisions without having to first start it on an Apple device and then send it over via AirPlay.

“Our goal has always been to deliver the best entertainment experiences to consumers – and as people spend more time at home, we are more committed to that mission than ever,” said Salek Brodsky, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development for Samsung Electronics. “Last year, we were the first TV manufacturer to offer the Apple TV app, and today, we are the first to offer Apple Music. Our partnership with Apple has been instrumental in bringing consumers an unparalleled lineup of different entertainment options, especially as they seek out more content choices from their Smart TVs.”

In addition to music, the new app will also feature music videos plus Apple’s “At Home With Apple Music” initiative, started during the coronavirus pandemic, which features playlists, artist interviews and recordings of group FaceTime chats between artists and Beats 1 personalities like Zane Lowe.

Podcasts, which Apple has in a separate app on iOS and MacOS, will similarly not be available in the Apple Music app on Samsung TVs.

In terms of the Apple Music app itself, there isn’t a lot to look at here. If you have used Apple Music on an Apple TV before, it looks like the app will offer the exact same experience on Samsung TVs. You can play music, control playback, browse your library, view videos on Apple Music, etc.
