Apple Addresses AirPods Pro Crackling Audio, Noise Cancellation Issues

A growing number of AirPods Pro owners have been complaining that noise cancellation on their earphones isn’t working as well it did when they first got them, with some users also noticing crackling audio. To address these issues, Apple has published a couple of support articles with troubleshooting steps to try (via 9to5Mac).

To fix any Active Noise Cancellation issues with the AirPods Pro, Apple suggests updating the operating system of your connected iOS device or Mac to the latest version. Moreover, cleaning the mesh on the top of the AirPods Pro using a dry cotton swab is also recommended as earwax or other debris can impact performance.

In the second support article, Apple again recommends first updating your iOS and macOS to the latest version. Apple then suggests isolating problems relating to audio interference in the environment and trying out a different audio app.

If your AirPods Pro make crackling or static sounds, follow these steps.

  1. Make sure that you have the latest software on your connected iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.

  2. Check that your connected device is nearby, and there’s no wireless interference or obstructions between you and your device.

  3. Listen to audio from a different app to see if the app causes the issue.

Yesterday, Apple also rolled out new firmware for the AirPods Pro which will be automatically downloaded and installed when the AirPods are left connected to an Apple product for a little while.
