Apple to Finally Introduce a Redesigned iMac Desktop This Year

In addition to moving away from Intel’s processors to its own silicon, Apple will finally be introducing a redesigned iMac this year, the company’s first redesign of its all-in-one desktop computer since 2012, Bloomberg is reporting.

Citing people familiar with the company’s plans, the publication notes that the all-new 2021 iMac models will feature slimmer black borders around the display while doing away with the thick metal chin area to resemble Apple’s Pro Display XDR monitor.

The new iMacs will also have a flat back instead of the curved rear as found in the current generation models.

Apple is planning to launch two versions — codenamed J456 and J457 — to replace the existing 21.5-inch and 27-inch models later this year, the people said, asking not to be identified because the products are not yet announced.

The redesigned iMacs releasing this year are part of Apple’s radical overhaul of its personal computer lineup, all of which will use next-generation versions of Apple’s Mac processors like the upcoming 2021 MacBook Pros.
