Microsoft Pokes at Apple and MacBook Pro Touch Bar in New Surface Ad

Microsoft has taken to using its latest video ad for its Surface to take a jab or two as Apple and its MacBook Pro Touch Bar. In an ad that aired during Sunday’s NFL championship game, Microsoft had a young boy compare its Surface against Apple’s MacBook Pro, via The Verge.

Microsoft and Apple have had a longstanding rivalry when it comes to certain products and operative systems. The Surface is another example of the two companies fighting for the wallets of users. In the video ad, the boy compares Microsoft’s Surface Pro 7 and the MacBook Pro. At one point, the boy asks: “Mac gave me this little bar, but why can’t they just give me a whole touchscreen?”

Microsoft later says that the Surface Pro 7 is better suited for gaming than the MacBook Pro. “It is a much better gaming device,” the ad claims. Granted, the MacBook Pro featured in the video is not the M1 model, meaning it is still integrated with Intel’s processor. Though the Surface line of devices has never been seen as a flagship gaming rig.

The video’s description also goes into the versatility of the Surface Pro 7.

“Only Surface Pro 7 has the versatility and portability of both a tablet and a laptop. With features like touchscreen, detachable keyboard and pen, and enough power to run your favorite apps — you can work or play from anywhere.”

The MacBook Pro Touch Bar has been a point of conversation recently as it’s been heavily rumoured that Apple will be removing the Touch Bar along with redesigning the overall appearance of the device.
Microsoft’s Surface Pro 7 starts at $799 CAD and features a 12.3-inch display, Intel processor, 128GB storage and 4GB of RAM. The MacBook Pro, on the other hand, starts at $1699 CAD with a 13-inch display, M1 processor, 256GB storage and 8GB of RAM.
