Spotify Adds Offline Playback Feature For Apple Watch

If you’re a Spotify premium user and have an Apple Watch, you’ll soon be able to listen on the go without an iPhone.

That’s according to a new press release from the Swedish streaming giant explaining that they are adding the ability to download playlists, albums, and podcasts on Apple Watch to play offline. Users will be able to stream audio in 96kbps, add and delete Spotify content on their phones, and sync with the Watch.

“Starting today, we’re rolling out the ability to download your favorite playlists, albums, and podcasts on Apple Watch,” reads the press release. “All users are already able to play tracks, albums, playlists, and podcasts, and now Premium users will also be able to download everything they’re listening to for a true offline and phone-free experience. This is on top of all the other Spotify features on Apple Watch — from Connect & Control to streaming to Siri.”

Basically, users will now be able to play content downloaded to their Watch without their iPhone. Spotify is also adding playback controls to Apple Watch, letting them control music wherever it’s playing from their wrist, including on a speaker, TV, or console.

Spotify provided these steps on how to download songs, playlists, albums, and more to the Apple Watch:

1. Find the music and podcasts you want to download on your watch.
2 Select the playlist, album, or podcast and press the three dots (…) and choose “Download to Apple Watch.”
3. To check on the progress, head over to the Downloads section on the watch.
4. Once playlists, albums, or podcasts in your library are downloaded, you’ll see a little green arrow next to their names.
5. Connect your headphones and start listening, no matter where you are!

You’ll need an Apple Watch Series 3 (or later) to use the new feature, and you’ll also need a subscription to Spotify Premium.
