New MacBook Pros Expected to Feature Full-Sized Function Keys

Apple is expected to reveal its new MacBook Pro models at today’s ‘Unleashed’ event. According to leaked schematics, seen by MacRumors, the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro devices will have full-sized function keys.

In the lead-up to the reveal of the redesigned MacBook Pro models, it’s been widely believed that Apple would be ditching the TouchBar and its functionality. The MacBook Pro Touch Bar handles F-key functionality as well as volume controls, power, etc. In replacement of the Touch Bar, Macrumors states that the keyboard will feature full-sized function keys, meaning that they will be the same size as the alphanumeric keys featured on the keyboard. This will be similar to the Magic Keyboard the 24-inch Mac supports.

Apple first integrated the Touch Bar into the MacBook in 2016. Over the last five years, it’s seen a fair share of reception but also criticisms. The Touch Bar has enabled multi-use functions and given creatives more flexibility in their controls while using various apps. However, reliability and ease-of-use have been a talking point of the Touch Bar across the generations.

Apple’s Unleashed event will be taking place today at 1 PM EDT/10 AM PDT. Additional rumours and reports have pegged that the redesigned MacBook Pros will also feature MagSafe charging and be powered by the new M1X silicon from Apple. More recently, reports have indicated that the new MacBooks may have a notch display. It’s uncertain if that will indeed be the case. Though, it does appear to be a safe assumption that the new MacBooks will feature enough new design elements to make for a tantalizing new device.
