Apple Planning Mid-2022 ‘MacBook’ with Colour Options Like 24″ iMac, Claims Leaker

Apple’s apparent next MacBook Air update is slated for mid-2022, claims leaker Dylan (@dylandkt) on Thursday.

According to @dylandkt, he claims, “The upcoming MacBook (Air) will release in the middle of 2022. It will have MagSafe, a 1080p webcam, USB C ports, a 30W power adapter, and no fans. There will be color options similar to the iMac 24. The bezels and keyboard will be an off white with full sized function keys.”

In regards to the design, it will be “similar to the new MacBook Pro while being thinner, lighter.” The leaker also says the laptop will be able to support two external displays and have colour options like we’ve seen with the 24” iMac.

As for the display, mini LED is “likely”, and it’s unclear if the screen will have a notch like Apple’s latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros. The new laptop will not have ProMotion (120Hz), Face ID, tapered design or HDMI, while the starting price is said to increase.

But the naming scheme for this new computer is being called ‘MacBook’, says @dylandkt, while also saying it will have Apple’s next-generation M2 processor.

Earlier this summer, @dylandkt also claimed this new MacBook Air would debut in the first half of 2022 with an updated M2 processor. Earlier in January of this year, the leaker accurately detailed the new iMac redesign, specifically flat edges, new stand and thicker bezels.

Back in August, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed the MacBook Air would get an “all-new” design in 2022, with more colours, a mid-year debut and also support a mini LED display. Kuo claims the design will be like this year’s latest MacBook Pros.

In late September, Kuo said this redesigned MacBook Air would start mass production in Q3 2022.

You would think if Apple went back to its old-school naming scheme like ‘MacBook’, it would be cheaper than the MacBook Air, which currently starts at $1,299 CAD. That would add a sixth member to the current Mac family.
