Rogers 5G Network Expands to 8 New Areas in Eastern Ontario

Rogers announced on Wednesday its 5G network has expanded in Eastern Ontario to the following areas:

  • Carleton Place
  • Cobourg
  • Kingston
  • Lindsay
  • Perth
  • Peterborough
  • Picton
  • Port Hope

The expansion was through the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) Cell Gap Project.

“Strong, reliable connectivity plays a critical role in Canadians’ daily lives, and Rogers is proud to bring next-generation wireless service to communities across Eastern Ontario,” said Ted Woodhead, President, Eastern Ontario, Rogers Communications, in an issued statement.

The expansion is part of a $300 million partnership between Rogers, the federal government, Ontario government and EORN, which is expected to bring wireless connectivity to 113 municipalities and Indigenous communities, through the construction of over 300 new cell towers and upgrades to existing 300 sites by 2025.

“We congratulate Rogers Communications for completing the first step in improving the reach and quality of cellular coverage across eastern Ontario through the EORN Cell Gap Project,” added J. Murray Jones, Chair, Eastern Ontario Regional Network.

Rogers says a separate $140 million investment will bring its fibre internet to Eastern Ontario communities of Quinte West, Belleville and Prince Edward County, offering high-speed internet to over 20,000 homes and businesses.
