Spotify Hikes Premium Prices in the US–What About Canada?

Music streaming service Spotify announced on Monday it is increasing its prices for new and existing Premium subscribers in the US. The Individual plan is increasing by $1 from $10.99 to $11.99 USD.

Spotify’s US plans are as follows:

  • Individual: $11.99 (was $10.99)
  • Duo: $16.99
  • Family: $19.99
  • Student: $5.99

Last July, Spotify also increased Premium subscriptions in the US and Canada, and now another hike is here, starting in the US.

Why the price increases? “So that we can continue to invest in and innovate on our product features and bring users the best experience, we occasionally update our prices,” said Spotify on Monday.

What about Canada? We’ve reached out to Spotify and they told iPhone in Canada in an email today’s news is only about the US, so you can rest easy (for now).

Spotify pricing in Canada is as follows—our Individual plan was priced at the same but in local currency, so I suspect at some point we might get a price increase as well:

  • Individual: CA$10.99 / month
  • Student: CA$5.99 / month
  • Duo: CA$14.99 / month
  • Family: CA$16.99 / month

Earlier this year, Spotify said the Streaming Act would possibly force it to increase prices in Canada. The company recently launched a campaign with Canadian rocker Bryan Adams to push back against the Streaming Act.
