Rogers Improves Cell Service in Eastern Ontario Communities

Rogers, along with the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN), the federal government and Ontario, have announced that 5G mobile services are now available in 21 communities in Eastern Ontario.

There are 42 new cell towers and upgrades to four existing sites, bringing 5G wireless services to all.

The EORN Cell Gap Project, which is a $300-million public-private partnership aimed at improving and expanding cellular services across rural Eastern Ontario, made these upgrades possible.

Nearly 50% of the project’s funding comes from federal and provincial governments, as well as municipal members of the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC) and most of the Eastern Ontario Mayors’ Caucus (EOMC). Rogers won the contract through a bidding process and is providing the remaining investment.

Rogers is building 332 new cell towers, including newly built and co-located sites shared with other providers, while 312 existing sites will be upgraded. To date, 309 sites have already been upgraded, and 100 new cell towers have been completed. Rogers says it is working to accelerate tower construction.
