Tesla Supercharger Coming to North Saanich, Expanding in Victoria
Tesla is set to open a new Supercharger station in Greater Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
According to Tesla’s future Supercharger roadmap, the new location will be situated in North Saanich, approximately 30 km north of Downtown Victoria.
Tesla North reports the new Superchargers will be installed at the Sandown Park Shopping Centre, according to info shared by @MarcoRPi1. This development will feature 16 new stalls along McDonald Park Road.
Historically, Sandown was known for its horse racing track. Currently, the site hosts a Canadian Tire, with the second phase of the shopping centre’s expansion underway. This expansion will include a Red Barn supermarket, set to open this summer, along with other anchor tenants like Dollarama, a liquor store, and a cannabis store.
The new Superchargers are expected to be Tesla’s latest V3 or V4 models. Presently, Victoria’s only Supercharger is located at Uptown Shopping Centre closer to downtown. These existing chargers are older and slower urban models, located in a less convenient area on the main level parkade (enter on Ravine Way).
The strategic placement of the new Supercharger at Sandown will benefit travellers, providing a convenient charging point close to B.C. Ferries. This will allow drivers to charge their vehicles before departing or upon arriving on the island from Vancouver and other locations. For those heading to Vancouver, the closest Supercharger after coming off the B.C. Ferries is at Tsawwassen Mills shopping mall.
If the Washington State Ferry service resumes operations (it shut down during COVID-19 sadly), this new Supercharger will offer U.S. travellers a nearby charging option that’s just a stone’s throw from Sidney.
Tesla recently opened its first delivery and service centre in Victoria, located in Langford.
