Netflix TV App Revamp Brings Dynamic Tiles, Simplified Navigation
According to a report by The Verge, Netflix is testing a significant redesign of its TV app’s homepage, which aims to create a more user-friendly experience.

This new look replaces the traditional static tiles of shows and movies with dynamic boxes that expand when selected, offering a more interactive and informative browsing experience.
Unlike the current Netflix TV app interface, where trailers and additional details appear at the top when hovering over a title, the new design centralizes information directly within the tile.
When a user hovers over a show or movie, a brief preview automatically plays within the box, and below it, viewers can find critical details such as the synopsis, release year, number of episodes, and genre.
Pat Flemming, Netflix’s Senior Director of Product, explained the rationale behind this redesign in an interview with The Verge. “We often see members doing gymnastics with their eyes as they’re scanning the home experience,” Flemming said.
“We really wanted members to have an easier time figuring out if a title is right for them,” he added, noting that this update isn’t limited to just the visual layout of titles.
Netflix is also simplifying its navigation by eliminating the side menu that used to slide out from the left of the screen. The new, more streamlined menu now sits at the top of the screen, featuring easy-access tabs for search, home, shows, movies, and a new addition, My Netflix.

The redesign does mean some previous menu options, such as “Categories,” “New & Popular,” and “My List,” have been removed from the main menu. However, the “Categories” option can still be found within the search tab.
Initially, the new homepage will be tested among a select group of subscribers using smart TVs and other streaming devices. If successful, Netflix plans to roll out the redesign more broadly.
