Review: Belkin’s iPhone MagSafe Mount for Apple TV 4K is Awesome

Belkin recently sent us their latest iPhone Mount with MagSafe for Apple TV 4K for a hands-on review with the latest Apple TV 3rd-gen.

This mount is designed to rest against your TV, supporting your MagSafe-compatible iPhone to serve as a FaceTime camera, thanks to Apple’s Continuity Camera feature.

Inside the box is the Belkin mount itself which is quite hefty and well-built. This thing will last for ages.

The Belkin mount can be used in three ways: resting against the TV, placed on a surface, or attached to a wall. This flexibility makes it an ideal solution for various setups. The Continuity Camera feature allows users to experience FaceTime on a big screen, making conversations with loved ones more personal. It’s a totally different experience trying FaceTime on the big screen versus your iPhone.

The Belkin iPhone Mount with MagSafe attaches securely to your TV, utilizing the iPhone’s rear camera as a webcam for FaceTime and other apps on Apple TV 4K.

It offers orientation flexibility, allowing you to easily switch your iPhone’s position to stream or record in portrait or landscape mode. The versatile design enables the mount to be directly attached to your TV, used as a standalone mount on a desktop, or attached to a TV stand.

Here’s the Belkin mount resting on top of our TV. It supported our iPhone 14 Pro Max without any issues. The mount can tilt from –20 to +30 degrees as well:

Once you start FaceTime on Apple TV, you’ll be asked to accept using your iPhone as a Continuity Camera. Once you accept, you then are told to position your iPhone camera in landscape with the rear cameras facing you:

Here’s the back of our TV with the Belkin Mount. It just sits atop the TV and the mount has a rubber surface to ensure your TV doesn’t get scratched or anything:

For those that rely on FaceTime calls frequently, included is a bracket to mount your Belkin mount to your wall. We didn’t do this obviously but here’s an example set up of what it would look like:

If you FaceTime a lot on the Apple TV 4K (2nd and 3rd gen), the Belkin iPhone MagSafe Mount looks to be a must-have, otherwise you’ll have to come up with your own solution. But the Belkin mount just makes it easy, just another mount in its line up to support Continuity Camera with Apple devices. This mount joins similar Belkin solutions for Continuity Camera for Mac laptops, plus Apple desktops and displays.

As for the Apple TV 4K 3rd-gen, it’s nice to see USB-C for recharging the Siri Remote. The whole system is so smooth and snappy thanks to the A15 Bionic chip upgrade over its predecessor (which was using an A12 Bionic). You also get double the storage plus HDR10+ in a design that’s a bit more compact than before, while pricing starts from $179 CAD. An Apple TV 4K is a no-brainer if you like to consume media and have instant connectivity to all your AirPods devices for listening at night thanks to iCloud.
