SaskTel’s 5G Rollout is Now 50% Complete

Sasktel 5g half waySince launching its 5G network in parts of Regina in late 2021, the Saskatchewan’s crown corporation has reached a new milestone.

SaskTel announced on the weekend it has now upgraded half of its provincial wireless network to 5G technology. Currently, SaskTel’s 5G network includes more than 520 cell sites and covers nearly 85% of Saskatchewan residents.

“Our government is thrilled with the progress SaskTel has made in bringing the amazing speed and power of its 5G network to the people of Saskatchewan,” said Dustin Duncan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel, in an issued statement to iPhone in Canada.

“This milestone marks a significant step forward in our ambitious deployment of 5G and further demonstrates our unwavering commitment to being the best at connecting our customers to what matters most to them,” said Charlene Gavel, SaskTel President and CEO.

SaskTel’s 5G network has download speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps.

The expansion of its 5G and fibre networks is part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest nearly $440 million in capital throughout Saskatchewan in 2024-25 and over $2 billion in the next five years.
