Koodo Price Hike: iPhone Visual Voicemail Goes Up 60%
We’re back with some more carrier price increases, folks. Telus-owned Koodo has increased the price of its iPhone Visual Voicemail add-on by 60%, now priced at $8 per month.
Previously, Visual Voicemail was priced at $5 per month. But a recent notice on billing statements said this price was increasing by $3 to $8 per month. You can see the billing statement shared by an iPhone in Canada reader (@Gologolum) below on a $29/30GB plan in Quebec:
“Visual Voicemail is an awesome feature that makes it easier and faster for you to manage your voice messages by letting you review them in a list on your phone. You can listen to any message by simply tapping on it and pressing the “Play” button. No more dialing any extra numbers or going through those long instructions to get to the message you want to hear. In case you miss part of the message, you can also rewind to any point,” explains Koodo’s website on the feature.
But with iOS 17, Live Voicemail is a good replacement for Visual Voicemail. One does not simply pay for voicemail in 2024. One of the most dreadful things in life (next to waiting in line at a bank) is calling into carrier voicemail to listen to messages, which 99% are spam. Live Voicemail can replace this and mimic Visual Voicemail but for free. The only con is that Live Voicemail doesn’t work when your iPhone is unreachable or off.
One other benefit of Visual Voicemail is it works within Apple CarPlay, unlike Live Voicemail. But honestly, how desperate are you to listen to voicemail while driving?
If you’re a Koodo customer, you might want to check your bill as Visual Voicemail is now $8 per month.
Recently, Koodo also increased the price of select Black Friday plans, while Virgin Price also increased plans on its website.

With Live Voicemail built into iOS 17, I don’t think anyone needs visual voicemail anymore. It’s just another money grab.
you need only when using android phones
Lol on android I can remove my voicemail notification. I let voicemails expire and never retrieve them. What are you like 80?
For doctor appointment, at least where I live, they still leave almost all their messages through voice mail if I miss their calls.
Live voicemail doesn’t work while roaming, which means when travelling, or on Freedom’s Nationwide network, you still need VVM.
same would apply to Ext network.
Live voicemail only work if your phone is set to English with contact speaking English.
I thought $5 was expensive, and now $8! That is a rip-off, almost 1/4 the price of a monthly price plan.
Umm..Hard pass Koodo!🤬
Now can we get Live Voicemail in French 😭
don’t count on it. We still not have the regular visual voice mail transcription in French yet despite its introduction in 2017.
Mid tier is going away, all 3 incumbents want a full and low tier. They are purposely making the mid tier uncompetitive. Its only a matter of time until no mid tier.
The phone system is all but dead to me with how badly carriers have let it become overrun with scams. Them thinking any of this is worth the prices they want is insane.
Meanwhile, I do have a French line with Free mobile that costs me 2 euros / month (~ cad 3, tax included), another US line that costs me US 2 / months with RedPocket. The first one is a regular carrier and the second one a MVNO. Both offer VVM with no additional cost.
Way to go to show you greed even more Telus.
