Telus Increases Price of All 5G+ Unlimited Plans

telus unlimited data plans increase

Telus had some “promotional” plans that were set to end of July 14, and as of today, the company has increased the price of its premium 5G+ plans, which have the fastest download speeds of up to 2 Gbps.

Check out the changes below:

  • $35 talk and text
  • $65/75GB (new activations only) – 5G Essential Unlimited 75
  • $70/75GB (new activations and renewals) – 5G Essential Unlimited 75
  • $90/150GB – 5G+ Premium Unlimited (was $80)
  • $105/200GB Canada-US talk/text/data – 5G+ Premium Unlimited Canada-US (was $95)
  • $120/200GB Canada-US-Mexico – 5G+ Premium Unlimited Canada-US-Mexico (was $110)

As you can see, there was a $10/month price increase to all 5G+ premium plans, now priced from $90/month for 150GB of data. Other Canada-US and North American plans cost $105 and $120 per month for 200GB of data (which is more than enough for the average person).

Let’s compare plans from Rogers and Bell

Rogers:

  • $44/50GB 5G
  • $65/75GB 5G BYOD (non-shareable data)
  • $75/100GB 5G (non-shareable data)
  • $80/150GB 5G+ BYOD
  • $90/175GB 5G+
  • $100/175GB 5G+ BYOD Canada-US-Mexico
  • $110/200GB 5G+ Canada-US-Mexico

Bell:

  • $65/75GB 5G BYOD
  • $70/75GB 5G
  • $80/150GB 5G+ BYOD
  • $110/150GB 5G+ BYOD Canada-US-Mexico (HD video streaming)

You can see the $65/75GB 5G plans are the same across the Big 3, while the Telus North American plan is $10 higher than its rivals at $120/month versus $110/month. Rogers has the ‘cheapest’ Canada-US-Mexico plan at $100/month, while it’s $110 at Bell and $120 at Telus.

We still have yet to see flanker brands besides Public Mobile (Telus) offer Canada-US plans like Freedom Mobile, as for $34/month you can get 50GB of Canada-US data at 5G speeds.

So all the telcos are going to increase their prices, and then come Black Friday, they will discount them and show us the nice deals we will be getting.

It’s such a backfill, tricky business. Except for Freedom, Public mobile is the best value plans right now (albeit missing some crucial features for some people).

Basically Telus are driving price conscious users away from their flagship brand and into their flanker brand… while jacking up the price for oblivious or vulnerable people.

Shameful.
