Kuo Shares iPhone 17 Specs: Ultra-Thin Design, Titanium Frame, and More

Veteran Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared a handful of insights into the much-anticipated iPhone 17 series set to launch in the second half of 2025.

Kuo’s latest analysis also sheds light on Apple’s strategic moves, including the discontinuation of the iPhone 17 Plus. He believes the iPhone 17 signifies Apple’s shift towards innovative design trends while maintaining strong performance with advanced technology.

According to the analyst, the iPhone 17 Plus accounts for only about 5-10% of total new iPhone shipments, indicating its limited appeal. The other models in the iPhone lineup, including the standard, Pro, and Pro Max, are already sufficient to cover the high-end market segments.

This redundancy has led Apple to streamline its offerings and discontinue the iPhone 17 Plus next year.

In a bid to explore new design horizons, Apple is set to introduce an ultra-slim model in the second half of 2025. This new addition is not intended to replace the iPhone 17 Plus but to complement the existing lineup with a fresh design perspective.

Here’s what to expect from the new ultra-thin iPhone 17:

  • Screen Size and Resolution: The ultra-slim model will feature a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of approximately 2,740 x 1,260 pixels. This ensures a crisp and vibrant visual experience, maintaining Apple’s reputation for high-quality displays.
  • Processor: It will be powered by the A19 chip, providing robust performance. The higher-end models in the iPhone 17 series will use the A19 Pro chip, offering even greater processing power.
  • Dynamic Island Area: The dynamic island area, a feature introduced in current models, will be retained, enhancing the user interface with dynamic and interactive elements.
  • Metal Frame: The ultra-slim iPhone 17 will utilize a titanium-aluminum alloy frame. This frame will contain a lower percentage of titanium compared to the Pro and Pro Max models, which will continue to use a higher titanium content for added durability.
  • 5G Chip: Apple’s in-house 5G chip will be integrated into the ultra-slim model, ensuring fast and reliable connectivity, a crucial feature for modern smartphones.
  • Camera: The ultra-slim iPhone 17 will sport a single rear wide camera. This minimalist approach contrasts with the multi-camera setups seen in other models, emphasizing simplicity and elegance.

Apple’s strategy with the ultra-slim iPhone 17 is to focus on design innovation rather than competing solely on hardware specifications.

By adopting a titanium-aluminum alloy frame and maintaining a high-resolution display, Apple ensures that the ultra-slim model stands out in both design and functionality.

I fail to see what would be a design innovation in the “Slim” iPhone 17 as it is described above. It looks more like a cheaper version of regular iPhone 17 or a 17 Pro
