Bell’s Virgin Plus and Rogers’ Fido have made a change to their monthly plans this week, as they now include unlimited U.S. calling.
Virgin Plus first made the the change for its 4G plans, then Fido followed suit after. As you can see from the screenshots, both flanker brands show unlimited Canada-US calling for their $39/20GB, $44/40GB, and $49/60GB plans.
A Virgin Plus spokesperson confirmed to iPhone in Canada on July 26 that US data roaming is not included, only calling and texting. Only in Quebec is US data roaming available with the $45/60GB BYOP plan, and the $50/60GB Sweet Pay option.
Koodo has the same plans, but only the company’s $49/60GB plan includes a free perk for U.S. and international calling to 27 total countries from Canada. You need to click to find out this information so expect Koodo to update its website to make it more explicit, and possibly bring US calling to its $39 and $44 plans.
We have yet to see Virgin Plus, Fido or Koodo bring US data roaming. Only Koodo’s sibling Public Mobile has Canada-US plans for talk, text and data (which end today, by the way).
Earlier today, Freedom Mobile added 5G and US and Mexico data roaming to all of their monthly plans. Let’s wait and see how the Big 3 respond.

US Calling. Wow! They gave us a feature they used to have in most data plans in 2010

US roaming for data is only available in Quebec. Rest of Canada just gets US calling. Virgin confirmed with us.
We were offered a loyalty plan for 125 GB with Virgin. It included their Roam sweet Roam w US data. Was great when we were in Alaska 🙂
Public Mobile (Telus) offers CAN/US plans every few months. I grabbed their 75 gig plan in Feb. Data in US is included, as well as calling. $40/month.
They currently offer a 50gig CAN/US plan for $39 or 80gigs for $44.
