Google Workspace Brings New Drafting Tools, Shortcuts for Gmail

Building on the success of the ‘Help me write’ feature and the recent introduction of email summarization in the Gmail mobile app, Google has today rolled out two new updates under its Gemini initiative.

Workspace

The first of these new features is a refined option for the ‘Help me write’ tool, now available on both web and mobile devices. This update allows users to polish their email drafts with just a few clicks, saving valuable time.

Whether you’re drafting a quick note or a formal letter, Gemini’s enhanced capabilities can take your rough notes and transform them into a polished, professional draft instantly. The tool now includes options to Formalize, Elaborate, Shorten, and the newly introduced Polish function, making it easier than ever to refine your emails to perfection.

This feature is particularly useful for professionals who need to maintain a formal tone in their communications but want to avoid spending excessive time on revisions.

Google has also improved the mobile experience by introducing new shortcuts for the ‘Help me write’ and ‘Refine my draft’ features on Android and iOS devices. Now, when you begin drafting an email on your mobile device, these shortcuts make it easier to access the full range of drafting tools.

When you start with an empty draft, the ‘Help me write’ shortcut automatically appears in the email body, allowing you to quickly initiate the drafting process. If your draft contains 12 or more words, the ‘Refine my draft’ shortcut will appear below your text, signaling that options like Polish, Formalize, Elaborate, and Shorten are available.

These updates are automatically enabled for all users, both on the web and on mobile devices, with no need for manual activation. Google has ensured that these features are ON by default, and they cannot be disabled.

For administrators, there is no additional control required, as these features are integrated seamlessly into the existing Google Workspace environment.
