SkipTheDishes Laying Off 800 Workers in Canada
SkipTheDishes and its parent company Just Eat Takeaway.com have announced significant layoffs affecting nearly 800 employees across Canada.

According to CBC News, about 100 employees directly working with SkipTheDishes in Canada will be laid off. Additionally, around 700 Canadian-based operations employees from the parent company will also lose their jobs.
Paul Burns, CEO of Skip, shared the news on LinkedIn, emphasizing that the decision, though difficult, was necessary to ensure the company is well-positioned for future growth.
“Decisions that impact people’s jobs are never simple or easy,” Burns stated. “However, the measures we took are necessary to ensure we have the right resources and organizational structure in place to drive sustainable growth.” He added that a more focused approach would allow the company to continue offering an enhanced service to customers and stakeholders.
These layoffs occur roughly a year after Burns, who previously led Twitter Canada, took the helm at SkipTheDishes. His leadership began during a time of significant change, as the company was navigating new ownership and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The acquisition of SkipTheDishes by Just Eat in 2016, followed by the merger with Takeaway.com in 2020, occurred during a period of upheaval in the global business landscape.

This isn’t the first time SkipTheDishes has implemented significant workforce reductions. In 2022, the company laid off approximately 350 employees based in Winnipeg, most of whom worked in remote contact center roles.
At the time, the company cited a “comprehensive review of its global logistics workforce” as the reason for the layoffs, aiming to better position the business for long-term success.

Good. Stopped using skip when drivers steal items from order and the company didn't care. Will never use again and don't care if it is better or worse.
Also had bad experience with them to the point that I wouldn’t go back even if they offered to deliver the food for free.
The reason sounds like pure BS. They probably saw either a need or an opportunity to save some money, a reasonable or necessary thing to do for a business sometimes but gotta make it sound good. It’s just tiring to hear this kind of drivel every time a CEO opens their mouth.
