Tesla Slashes Prices on CCS Adapter and Retrofits in Canada

Two years ago Tesla expanded its CCS Combo 1 Adapter sales to Canada, offering Tesla owners another way to charge their vehicles at third-party DC fast chargers.

While Tesla’s Supercharger network is extensive in and around major cities, for those heading off the beaten path, or living in areas where Superchargers have yet to materialize, a CCS adapter lets you charge at other fast charging stations.

Tesla last week reduced prices for its CCS Combo 1 Adapter and retrofit services in Canada, according to Tesla North:

  • CCS Combo 1 Adapter: $175 CAD, down from $325 CAD (46% off)
  • Model S/X Retrofit with Adapter: $415 CAD (was $615 CAD; 33% off).
  • Model 3/Y Retrofit with Adapter: $310 CAD (was $465 CAD; 35% off).

What’s with these price cuts? With Tesla’s charger connector, known as the North American Charging Standard (NACS) being adopted by the majority of automakers in Canada, the US and by third-party charging companies, CCS looks to be not as important anymore.

The adapter supports charging speeds up to 250 kW, though most third-party stations may not reach these rates. Compatibility and scheduling for retrofitting can be done via the Tesla app, with installation performed at your nearest Tesla Service Center.

Tesla recently brought back its referral program in Canada, letting those buying a new car with a referral link save $1,300 off a new Model S/X or Model 3/Y. The Model Y also has a 1.99% APR promo for all cars delivered by the end of September.
