Canadians Waiting on a Model 3 Premium RWD May Get a US-Built Car

Tesla Model 3

Tesla Canada has updated its Model 3 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive listing to 584 km of range and a 5.2-second 0-100 km/h time, numbers that match the US-built Premium RWD rather than the China-built $39,490 CAD car Canadians have been buying. That shift hints the trim may return from Fremont once orders reopen, though Tesla has not confirmed any change in sourcing.

The earlier Canadian page showed 463 km and 6.2 seconds, the slower Shanghai Premium RWD package. As Tesla North reported, the new figures sit on the Model 3 Premium Specs page with Rear-Wheel Drive selected, alongside a curb weight of 1,745 kg.

On Tesla’s US Model 3 page, the Premium RWD is rated at 363 miles of EPA range, which converts to 584 km, with 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds. That acceleration typically lines up with about 5.2 seconds to 100 km/h, so the Canadian listing now reads like the Fremont car.

Buyers still cannot place a new order. Tesla paused Model 3 Premium orders in Canada on October 12 after saying high demand used up its import quota for China-built EVs, with ordering expected to resume in March 2027 if the federal government issues more quota.

Both the Premium Rear-Wheel Drive and the Premium All-Wheel Drive remain on hold. The Model 3 Performance is still available to configure, starting at $74,990 CAD.

A Fremont-built car would sidestep the same managed import quota that brought Shanghai-built Model 3s back to Canada at a lower tariff earlier this year, and then paused Premium ordering. Tesla watcher RJTesla flagged the spec change on X on Monday.

One Canadian buyer with a pending Model 3 order said on X that Tesla told them last week their car could be a “Shanghai built model or another.” Tesla has not said whether the new listing means US production for Canada, a different Shanghai long-range pack, or only a refreshed web page.

Would a US-built Model 3 Premium RWD change your plans if the price is higher than $39,490 CAD, or would you still wait for more China quota in March 2027?
