Nintendo’s original Switch is aging and still being sold, but a predecessor is due soon, as the portable console is already 7.5 years old.
Now, photos of what appear to be factory prototypes for the Nintendo Switch 2 have leaked online, originating from a Chinese social media site and shared on Reddit.
The images show a device with an 8-inch screen, magnetic Joy-Con controllers, and USB-C ports on both the top and bottom. It’s unclear if these images are authentic or not, but they look like they could pass as a legitimate update. The renders show a similar design to the existing Switch.
According to leaks, the Switch 2 may feature 12GB of RAM, support HDMI 2.1, and offer 256GB of internal storage.
While Nintendo has yet to comment on the images or future hardware plans, many expect an official announcement before the end of the company’s fiscal year in March 2025, a delay from its previously anticipated late 2024 launch.
