Public Mobile Customers are Seeing “5G+” Icons: Here’s Why

Some Public Mobile customers have started seeing “5G+” icons in their device status bars, particularly those on 5G plans and more.

Back in March, we saw Telus and Koodo customers note they were starting to see “5G+” icons. At the time, this was because Android and iPhone and customers were seeing their devices connect to 3500 MHz 5G spectrum, which offers better coverage and download speeds.

After reaching out to Public Mobile, a spokesperson reiterated to iPhone in Canada the same details they told us in the spring. These 5G+ icons will appear in locations where 3500 MHz 5G spectrum is in place.

But Public Mobile also said seeing “5G+” icon doesn’t mean faster speeds. Customer download speeds are limited to their subscription plan. 3G speeds are up to 3 Mbps, 4G speeds are up to 100 Mbps and 5G is up to 250 Mbps.

Public mobile 5g+.

Some iPhone in Canada readers shared with us their 5G+ speedtests and they were seeing download speeds above 300 Mbps, which is faster than than what Telus has outlined.

Public Mobile currently has $39/50GB and $45/65GB 5G plans, both which offer talk, text and data in Canada and the USA.

Nonetheless, if you’re seeing 5G+ icons on your device, just know your download speeds won’t change outside of your plan’s limitations.

This is not new. I have been having this 5G+ for months now. Speed is most of the time at 260/25 in MTL.
