iPhone Class Action in Canada Validation Stage Ongoing, Check Spam Folder

The Canadian iPhone Power Management Class Action Settlement, which was approved by the courts on March 4, 2024, is approaching a key deadline for claimants.

Those who owned or purchased an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7, or 7 Plus may be eligible for compensation if they installed specific iOS updates before December 21, 2017.

The lawsuit alleges that Apple’s software updates caused these iPhones to “prematurely age, degrade, and shut down unexpectedly,” and follows the footsteps of a similar class action in the USA. Although Apple denies these claims, the company agreed to pay between $11.1 million and $14.4 million CAD to settle the case.

The claim deadline was September 2, 2024. Since then, the validation stage of the class action has been reached and some of these emails are being marked as spam, according to iPhone in Canada readers, such as Paul.

Readers reported receiving emails dated October 16 and October 21, marked as spam. These emails asked for claimants with pending validations to complete the process by October 25, 2024, to proceed to the next review stage. Failure to validate by the deadline will result in claim rejection, meaning not getting any payment.

The validation email directs claimants to enter their Validation ID and confirm whether they received the link by email or text. The page will also request the claimant’s full legal name and mailing address to confirm their identity.

According to an update on October 14, 2024, the settlement administrators are still processing claims due to high volumes. Payments will be issued once the review is complete, and claimants may be contacted if further information is needed. The deadline to complete validations is set for October 25, 2024.

We haven’t received any validation emails yet, despite checking our spam folders. Let us know if you’ve received any emails from the class action settlement in the comments below, and keep us updated.

Received one a couple of weeks ago and just received another one today. Must be one email validation per iPhone claim.

I received 2 separate e-mails asking for me to complete my claim – I thought I messed something up, but they were both looking for interac deposit details. This is what each said:

We received your claim for the iPhone Power Management Class Action but are unable to validate it. This notice is being sent to give you the opportunity to complete the validation process. If you successfully validate your claim by no later than Friday, October 25, 2024, your claim will proceed to the next stage of review.

Received two reminder emails, and I emailed them back using the email from the website to see if they are legitimate. They emailed me back to say the emails are from them, so I verified my info.

I originally submitted multiple device claims and received "We acknowledge receipt and thank you for your claim submission under the iPhone Power Management Class Action" emails right away. But I have not received any other emails.

So I emailed them yesterday and they replied with

“Validation e-mails are only sent for certain claims.

If you have not received a validation e-mail, then no further action is required.”

I take it that not everyone will be asked for validation.

That said. I have no idea if that means certain claims don’t need it or some claims were denied, so no further action is needed.

I wonder if they need validations for people who didn't provide proof of purchase. I haven't received a validation email but I submitted a photocopy of my original receipt as proof.
