New Android Features are Here Powered by Gemini AI: What’s New

Google today announced new features for its Android OS today, with many powered by its Gemini AI. Check out what’s new below…
Expressive Captions
Android can now add captions to videos and audio that capture not just words but also tone, volume, and sounds like [whispers] or [applause]. This feature will help you better understand the mood behind what’s being said, says Google.
Smarter Image Descriptions
With the Lookout app, you can take or upload photos to get detailed descriptions read aloud. Using improved AI (Gemini 1.5 Pro), you can also ask follow-up questions about the image, making it easier for people with low vision to understand visual content.
New Emoji Sticker Combos
The Gboard keyboard can now mix emojis to create fun, pizza-themed stickers using Emoji Kitchen (🍕 + ❤️). Gboard also has a new glide typing feature, Clearflow, for faster and more accurate typing.
QR Code Sharing
Sharing photos, videos, and files is now simpler with QR codes. Just select a file, generate a QR code, and let others scan it to download.
Better Document Scanning
Google Drive now automatically improves scans of receipts, IDs, and other documents. It adjusts contrast, balances white tones, and removes shadows for clear, high-quality digital copies. This will be a great feature for those that rely on document scanning with their Android phones.
Gemini AI Extensions
Android’s Gemini AI can now control Spotify, send messages, set alarms, and adjust settings. Coming soon, Gemini will also help manage smart home devices and give you more details about locations on Google Maps.
Earlier today, Google also announced new updates coming to its Pixel smartphones, as part of its December Pixel feature drop.
