Freedom Mobile’s Petition Nears 30K Signatures, Challenges Big 3

freedom end roaming fees

Last month, Quebecor’s Freedom Mobile launched a Change.org petition urging Rogers, Telus and Bell to drop their overpriced roaming fees.

Fast forward nearly a month later, Freedom Mobile announced today its petition has reached nearly 30,000 signatures, with numbers continuing to “grow steadily”.

“This strong public response reinforces what we’ve been hearing from consumers across the country: Canadians are seeking more affordable options for staying connected while traveling,” said Freedom Mobile in an email to iPhone in Canada.

“We encourage Canadians to continue making their voices heard by signing and sharing the petition, as every signature strengthens the call for more affordable roaming options,” added the Freedom Mobile spokesperson.

We’ve seen telecoms been busy over the past month launching petitions. Telus launched its own Change.org petition last month too, challenging Ottawa over internet choice for consumers. The Telus petition has topped 40,000 signatures, which includes employees that pledged their names. The Freedom Mobile petition does not have any employee signatures, nor were any encouraged to participate, to not skew the numbers.
