Flying Soon? Tangerine Bank Will Pay You $40 for Your Airline Bags

Tangerine Bank has launched a new offer to help customers save on airline baggage fees.
As of January 3, 2025, the bank will provide a $40 rebate for checked or carry-on bag fees for eligible customers. The rebate applies to baggage purchases of $39.55 or more made directly with an airline using a Tangerine Credit Card or Tangerine VISA Debit Card.
Recently, Air Canada started charging for carry-on bags for its basic economy fare, which kicked into effect last week. This new rebate from Tangerine looks to capitalize on the rage over yet another airline fee.
The offer is available to the first 7,500 eligible Tangerine clients. Customers don’t need to submit receipts—Tangerine will automatically reimburse the $40 to the payment card used for the purchase.
“We’re big believers in no monthly fee chequing and Tangerine has always looked for ways to help their Clients save their hard-earned money,” said Natalie Jones, Chief Marketing Officer, Tangerine, in a statement. “This offer reflects our commitment to remove hoops for our Clients and put more money back in their pockets—it’s just another uncomplicated way to save with Tangerine.”
Tangerine Bank’s mobile apps support mobile wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay. The bank is a subsidiary of Scotiabank.
Rebates will be credited to your account within 60 days after the purchase is posted. The offer is limited to one rebate per customer and cannot be combined with other Tangerine promotions. Now, I guess you’ll have to see if you’re one of the eligible 7,500, as there’s no way to check.
