Rogers Price Hikes Coming on April Fool’s Day, But It’s No Joke

In what is likely the worst possible date to set a price increase, some Rogers customers are set to see their home internet and phone services increase on April Fool’s Day. But this ain’t no joke, folks.

According to some January billing statements shared by iPhone in Canada readers, near the bottom half of the first page provides the notice of “changes to your Home Service Rate”. The text is not a heading or in bold, but in the same size font as billing statement text, so it can be hard to notice.

Rogers says the monthly fee for internet will go up $7 per month, while home phone will go up by $5 per month, as of April 1, 2025. The reason? It’s so Rogers can continue to invest in its network to bring the “best connected experience” in the country.

As with other price increases, those with active discounts or guaranteed rates will remain until the end date. Those on 2-year ValuePlans will see the same price until the latter’s expiration date.

If you have any questions or want to unsubscribe to services, Rogers says to contact them. Again, it’s in your best interest to check your billing statement. It’s easy to miss these price hike notices because you don’t get bills in the mail and you need to log into your account and check PDF versions of your bills. Really though, telecoms should send text messages or emails alerting of price increases.

Back in August of last year, we told you about Rogers increasing the price of TV box rentals by $7. That set off follow-up stories in the media and eventually MPs caught wind, summoning the company’s CEO to Ottawa. But Rogers CEO Tony Staffieri didn’t attend and instead sent someone else instead, angering MPs. Less than one week later, Staffieri did face MPs who roasted him over the rental box price hikes.

The last time the $7 rental box happened, some readers that reached out to Rogers to argue were able to bypass the price hike, so your mileage may vary with these upcoming hikes, if you’re affected.

"What are you even talking about? Your comment has nothing to do with the article" What are you even talking about? It has everything to do with this article, it's the lib government that approver the shawrogers deal. The lib's told everyone how the sale would benefit Canadians. The only one to benefit from the sale is rogers. WAKE UP

Has nothing to do with liberal ideology, has to do with GREED. Go honk your horn and wave your little flag some more and see how that goes.

Corporations are greedy by nature. Shame on the government doing nothing but lack of regulation

Gee, I remember being told the Rogers/Shaw merger would lead to lower prices. Time to open the marketplace and get rid of the CRTC.

Yes that's what the lib's said. Another gift from the liberal government.

The Cons were in power for a decade prior to the Libs and the prices didn't go down and the CRTC still existed but nice try.

Have 2 years 44$ for 1.5gb, maybe it was a wise idea to get I to price fixed contract after all.
