Rogers Price Increase: Extra Ignite TV Boxes Jumping Up 70% [Update]

If you subscribe to Rogers Ignite TV and have extra boxes in your home, the price is jumping up by 70% as of September 17, 2024. These boxes are required for your TV to watch Rogers Ignite TV.
A recent bill notice sent out by Rogers and obtained by iPhone in Canada says the price hike will affect those with additional Ignite TV boxes, currently priced at $10/month.
Why the price increase? Rogers says it is due to the “rising costs to deliver the latest technology,” according to its message to customers. Now, the kicker is the price increase doesn’t include a new Ignite TV box or anything, it’s still the same version of the set-top box.
If your household has multiple Ignite TV boxes, that $7 price increase applies to each box. So if you have two extra boxes in your house that’s a $14/month price increase and so forth. Regardless, you’ll be paying $17/month for every extra Ignite TV box you’re renting from Rogers.
Rogers says each TV needs its own Ignite TV box in your home. The notice says starting on your first bill on or after September 17, the price for each additional Ignite TV box will be $17/month plus tax. This price increase will affect all customers, even those on discounted 2-year plans.
Bell still charges $8 per month to rent a TV box, which is less than half of what it will cost from Rogers on September 17.
Did you see this notice about the extra Rogers Ignite TV box price increase on your most recent bill statement?
Update September 29, 2024, 4:07pm PDT: According to a Rogers spokesperson in an email to iPhone in Canada, “The majority of our TV customers are not impacted by the change.” Rogers did not specify who is targeted by these price increases and who is not, but we will update this story accordingly.

I just use the cheap chromecast. It’s works great if you stream a program from the rogers tv app 👌
In 2024 I have no idea why we even have TV boxes. Why can't Rogers just use an app on all platforms and stream everything that way.
then how else would rogers be able to keep up with the latest tech without charging 17$ per box ?
Rogers doesn't want TV customers
I'm dumping Rogers as soon as my contract is up. And the main reason is still no Ignite TV app for AppleTV. Meanwhile Bell and Telus have them. Comcast allows customers to access their Xfinity TV service on an AppleTV and so does their partners in the UK. I'm done with the days of paying rogers to rent boxes.

Why would anyone still pay for cable tv?
My internet provider (Dotto-One) recently teamed up with ipTV provider Rally TV. While they provided a free 'box' (currently connected via my home's WiFi), I really don't need it, because my smart TV can access RallyTV's app. Similarly, I can access my service when away from home on my iPhone and Android tablet using the app. And I was already paying less for my internet than Rogers, Bell or their flankers.
Meanwhile, I also have the 'free' Roku offerings via their cheapest hardware.
Who the hell pays for tv lmao 🤣
Oh, you're so wise.
lmao.
On the Shaw/Rogers side, boxes are $5/mth and increasing to $12/mth. So more like +140%. Great incentive to eliminate cable. I canceled my second box after getting this notice.
The worst thing was Rogers buying Shaw. That should've never been allowed.

Provided the apks to install these apps on my Chromecast plus Google TV dongle>
IGNITE TV (SHAW) MODDED 8.2.1.17
ICON (Shortcut) IGNITE TV (SHAW) WHITE
which gave me access to all my Shaw (now Rogers) channels without an extra Ignite Box.
I just cancelled my second TV box and sent it back. If enough customers do the same, perhaps Rogers will get the message that there are limits to tolerance for price gouging. They will also learn that providing TV service is part of their bundles, and it that service becomes too costly, they will lose those customers to competitors, so it's not just TV service.
