Sony Backtracks After Backlash Over Classic PlayStation Themes

Playstation skin.

Sony upset PlayStation fans after announcing that classic console themes from the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 eras would be removed.

Many players demanded they be made permanent, sparking backlash online on social networks like X, naturally.

In response, Sony has now confirmed the themes will return “in the months ahead.” However, the company stated that there are no plans to create new themes in the future. It’s just incredible seeing Sony acknowledge this was a mistake.

This comes just a day after Sony announced that PS4 games will soon be phased out from PlayStation Plus, signaling a shift toward focusing on the PS5. While fans are relieved the classic themes will be back, some remain frustrated over Sony’s recent decisions.

“While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we’re excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all,” said Sony.

Not sure what Sony has been thinking here. The classic themes are super popular—why take them away?
