Rogers and Fido Roaming Rates Increasing Ahead of Spring Break

Well, that took longer than we expected, but Rogers and Fido are set to increase its daily roaming rates ahead of Spring Break.

iPhone in Canada has learned Rogers and Fido will be increasing prices on March 3, 2025, for U.S. and international roaming. Both websites confirm the change is happening.

“New U.S. and international Roam Like Home rates are going into effect on March 3, 2025,” says Rogers. “$14/day for U.S. daily rate and $16/day for international daily rate,” it reads.

The current rate is $12/day for U.S. and $15/day for international. The price increase is 17% for U.S. and 7% for international travel.

For these daily roaming rates, if you agree to pay the daily rate you can use your plan while outside of Canada like normal. While both companies will only charge you up to 20 days per your billling cycle, many travellers don’t align their travel dates based on their cellphone plan schedule. This mean you could be travelling when your billing cycle overlaps and you can be charged more than 20 days.

The price increases will essentially match price increases from Telus and Bell from two years ago (prices went up ahead of spring break as well). Rogers delayed their matching price increase until now. Notice that Bell is charging $1 less for US daily roaming.

Telus roaming rates:

  • $14/day for US
  • $16/day for international

Bell roaming rates:

  • $13/day for US
  • $16/day for international

Again, you’re better off getting a Canada-US-Mexico roaming plan from either Public Mobile or Freedom Mobile instead of paying these daily roaming rates.

Back in October, the federal government asked Rogers, Telus and Bell to lower roaming rates. Looks like that message wasn’t well received (although Bell and Virgin Plus did launch a 50% off deal today for roaming).

“Canadians need to stay connected when they travel, but often come home to high cellphone bills. The CRTC is taking action to help reduce roaming fees and is ready to launch a formal public proceeding if Canadians’ concerns are not addressed,” said Vicky Eatrides, Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer, CRTC, back in October. No word what will happen now aside from tough talk from the CRTC.
