Rogers vs. Bell Feud Cuts Off Oscars Stream in CTV App

Some Rogers customers were unable to stream the Oscars live through the CTV app, sparking frustration over new restrictions on out-of-home streaming.

A Reddit user shared their disappointment, saying they missed the Oscars for the first time in 20 years due to the issue (people still watch the Oscars?). “Super frustrating… What’s the point of having an app to stream live TV if you have to be at home?” they wrote, noting that the restriction appears to have started in January 2025. This is when Rogers started showcasing content thanks to its new deal with Warner Bros. which included bringing Bravo content back to Canada.

CTV’s support website confirms the change, but saying Rogers is the one that is blocking access. “Regrettably, Rogers has decided to stop access to CTV and CTV2 content for Rogers customers via ctv.ca and the CTV app. You can continue to access and enjoy live CTV and CTV2 channels through your set-top-box.”

Customers can still watch CTV channels through their set-top box, but live streaming outside the home is no longer an option. CTV then directs customers to contact Rogers through the latter’s website.

The issue appears to stem from an ongoing dispute between Bell and Rogers over content rights. Rogers secured exclusive rights to networks like Discovery and HGTV, taking them away from Bell Media. Now it’s unclear why Rogers is not allowing access to CTV and CTV2 through the CTV app when you’re outside of your home. Let the blame game begin.

Some Shaw (now owned by Rogers) users were told that the issue could be temporary, but no official resolution has been announced.

When were the Oscars ever good? It's just glorified Hollywood event, giving themselves a pat on the back for another yr of crap movies.

Oh noooooo…the 2 viewers must have been really upset.
Hollywood stopped being relevant 15 years ago – about the same time they stopped making good movies.
And the Oscars??? I caught a glimpse of the Oprah /Whoopi "feud" and it was exactly what you expect..entitled pseudo – celebrities vying for attention.
No thank you.

Honestly Rogers is such a baby sometimes. The family drama is reflected in the organization.

Today, the Oscars. Tomorrow, the Superbowl.
