Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Orders Delayed: What About Canada? [Update]
Update April 4, 2025: Nintendo has confirmed with iPhone in Canada the pre-order date remains unchanged here for the Switch 2, which is great news.
Looks like Nintendo Switch 2 preorders have been delayed, according to the company. The cause? The new tariffs implemented yesterday worldwide by the Trump administration.
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,” Nintendo said in a statement to Polygon. “Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”
Will Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders be delayed in Canada? The new console was set to launch North American pre-orders on April 9. We’ve reached out to Nintendo Canada for clarification and will update this story accordingly.
Pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 has been polarizing according to fans, given the $629.99 starting price in Canada and $699.99 price for the Mario Kart World bundle. Premium games from Nintendo might cost over $125 CAD after exchange rates. If there is a delay in Canada, that might give you some more time to save up a few more pennies ahead of any preorders.
