SaskTel to Spend $466M on Network Upgrades Across Province

SaskTel announced on Tuesday it will invest $465.9 million in 2025-26 to expand high-speed internet and mobile coverage throughout Saskatchewan, focusing on rural, northern, and Indigenous communities.
The funding will support the rollout of more 5G cell towers, fibre-optic internet, and upgraded infrastructure to improve service and meet growing demand, said the crown corporation.
“Our government is delivering for Saskatchewan by investing in the communications technologies and infrastructure that people rely on for work, education, healthcare, and staying connected,” said Jeremy Harrison, Minister Responsible for SaskTel, in an issued statement. “SaskTel’s investment in expanding its cutting-edge 5G wireless and fibre optic broadband networks will create jobs, drive economic growth, and enhance the quality of life for residents across our province.”
More than half of the money will go toward expanding SaskTel’s 5G and infiNET fibre networks, with $111.5 million set for building or upgrading 175 cell sites and $90.5 million for fibre expansion in up to 60 rural areas and all major urban centres.
The Aurora program, which will receive $83.5 million, will connect over 30 underserved northern and Indigenous communities to SaskTel’s fibre network and add wireless service in locations like Birch Narrows First Nation and Turnor Lake.
An additional $180 million will be used to enhance SaskTel’s internal systems, including upgrades to its customer service platforms, Wi-Fi services, and television infrastructure.

Pretty decent investment considering they get about a billion per year in revenue
