Bell Launches AI Scam Call Warning Tool for Mobile Users in Canada
Bell has officially launched Suspicious Call Detection, a new feature that uses AI to flag incoming calls that may be fraud or spam. The tool is now automatically active for all Bell Mobility, Virgin Plus, and Lucky Mobile customers at no extra cost.
Using real-time AI and machine learning, the system labels suspicious calls with clear warnings to help users decide whether to answer:
- Likely Fraud – for calls that are highly suspicious or linked to scams
- Possible Spam – for calls that appear unwanted but are less severe
These warning labels appear directly on the incoming call screen, giving customers a quick heads-up before picking up. The system is self-learning and will become more accurate over time as it analyzes new scam tactics and call patterns, said a Bell spokesperson to iPhone in Canada on Wednesday.
Unlike traditional call blocking, Suspicious Call Detection doesn’t stop calls—it flags them. Users can still choose to answer or manually block unwanted numbers in their device settings. Bell recommends saving important contacts, like doctors or hospitals, to avoid mislabeling.
On Android smartphones, the built-in “Caller ID and Spam Protection” may override Bell’s call detection feature, so you might want to turn it off:
-
Open the Phone app
-
Tap the three dots > Settings
-
Toggle off Caller ID and Spam Protection
The feature supports both English and French. Depending on your area code, the labels will appear with either French or English listed first.
Bell says this new tool builds on its existing call-blocking tech, which has blocked over 6.6 billion scam calls since 2021. According to Bell’s spokesperson, the new detection feature is “another step forward in helping customers screen calls that can’t be blocked outright.” The current call blocking tech builds on what Bell implemented back in 2020.

What a joke. If bell really cared, they would give its users the option to enable call control. Most people I know on the telus network who said they have activated it has had spam calling almost none existent since. All while there are times I'm receiving 10-15 spam calls a day on the bell network.
