Bell Increases Connection Fee to $75, Brings Back Canada-US Plan
Bell and its subsidiary Virgin Plus have increased its connection fee to $75, up from $70, following in the footsteps of Rogers, which made the price hike in February.
The connection fee is charged when you activate a line with a human, but is waived if you shop online (it’s credited on your first or second billing period).
In October 2024, Bell increased its connection fee from $60 to $70. Fast forward seven months, and it’s up another $5. Telus still has its connection fee at $70, but expect that to change shortly.
Besides the connection fee change, Bell has also brought back a Canada-US plan. Here are the company’s plans as of May 1, after autopay:
- $65/100GB 5G+
- $75/175GB 5G+ Canada-US (new)
- $95/250GB 5G+ Canada-US-Mexico
The return of the Canada-US plan matches what Rogers added last week.
Here are plans from Rogers after autopay discount:
- $65/100GB
- $75/175GB Canada US
- $95/250GB Canada-US-Mexico
Telus after autopay discount—notice some prices have gone down, while others have gone up:
- $55/100GB (was $60)
- $65/100GB (was 125GB
- $75/150GB Canada-US (was $70)
- $90/250GB Canada-US-Mexico (was $80/200GB)
One other change from Bell? Its mobile plan page no longer defaults pricing to four mobile lines, now just showing one, like Telus. Only Rogers has plans showing pricing for four lines after service bundles.

Connection fee for a cell phone should be illegal
Meanwhile, contrarians will argue Bell and telecos deserve to make money because it's a very expensive process to port and get a new number. 🤦♀️
What are you talking about?! Of course we don’t have any oligopolies or shady collusion — it’s pure, unfiltered competition out here! Huge thanks to our government for always putting citizens’ interests first!
Readership must be dwindling. Just a few years ago you'd have a handful of commenters here arguing the opposite.
