Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is an Impressively Thin Phone, Launching for $1,678

Following its tease during Galaxy Unpacked this year, Samsung is officially launching the Galaxy S25 Edge. The latest device is the company’s thinnest device in the Galaxy S series, at only 5.8mm. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge is available in Canada, starting at $1,678.
I had the chance to go hands-on with the latest of Samsung’s latest devices ahead of its full reveal. After piquing my interest with its ‘one last thing’ announcement during Galaxy Unpacked, this device has been at the top of my mind for months. After spending an hour or so holding and using the device, I must say that the Galaxy S25 Edge impressed me in a couple of fundamental ways.

Galaxy S25 Edge is without a doubt Samsung’s thinnest device yet. Simply by holding it in my hand, I was astonished by how thin it actually was. To emphasize the thin design, I was asked to compare it to a stack of three toonies. The Galaxy S25 Edge went flush up against the stack of Canadian coins. All in all, the Galaxy S25 Edge measures in at 158.2 x 75.6 x 5.8mm and is paired with a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x display, offering 3120 x 1440 QHD+ resolution. Samsung has partnered with Corning to develop a Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 display, supporting enhanced durability and crack deflection. The new display features crystals embedded within the glass to strengthen it.
To compensate for the thin design, Samsung has to make a few concessions. For instance, the Galaxy S25 Edge offers a 3,900mAh battery, which is paired down from the 4,000mAh battery of the base Galaxy S25. The latest device has also been forced to remove the use of a telephoto lens, removing the sensor to accommodate the design. Instead, the Galaxy S25 Edge features a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultrawide lens as well as a 200-megapixel f/1.7 wide-angle lens. When looking at the selfie camera, Samsung includes a 12-megapixel lens as well.
Covering some other notable specs, the Galaxy S25 Edge includes 12GB of RAM and offers 256GB and 512GB storage options. It supports 25w Super Fast Charging and wireless charging options. It’ll also feature an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner integrated under its display. The Galaxy S25 Edge also sports an IP68 rating for water and dust protection.

What also stood out to me was the Galaxy S25 Edge’s sheer weight. As expected by its thin design, the new Samsung device is shockingly lightweight, weighing only 163g. Despite being a larger size and offering a larger display when compared to the Galaxy S25, it’s only 1g heavier than the base model. In comparison to the iPhone 16 I’m using currently, the Galaxy S25 Edge is 7g lighter, and it feels that way as well as I held each in my hand.
Samsung has included a matte-like finish to the Galaxy S25 Edge’s rear. This is complemented by the use of Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The device is launching in two colourways in Canada. The first is the Titanium Black, which personally stood out to me. While only allowing minor fingerprints or smudges to appear, I quite liked the way the use of Gorilla Glass Victus 2 looked against the colour. The other colour option is Titanium Silver. Unfortunately, for now, Canada will not be receiving access to the Titanium Icyblue model.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the same as the Galaxy S25 series. Of course, with the use of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, the Galaxy S25 Edge supports Galaxy AI and its full suite of AI features. Speaking to Samsung’s spokespeople, I was informed that the latest device will support features like Live Translate, Writing Assist, AI Photo Editing, and Generative Edits. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge is also running One UI 7, the contemporary Android software.

The Galaxy S25 Edge feels very premium, even when compared to its peers within the S25 series. There’s something about the size and scale of the device that feels just right. Simply put, the latest device feels nestled between the base Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25+. Not only by the size of its 6.7-inch display but also by the weight and the featureset.
Of course, so much of the Galaxy S25 Edge relies on experiencing the thin design and weight for yourself. It’s one thing to read about the size comparisons, but it’s another to feel the impact of Samsung’s development in your hands. As the Galaxy S25 Edge launches, Samsung will, of course, offer Canadian users the chance to test it for themselves in-store once it’s available.
Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge is launching today in Canada and other global regions. The 256GB model is releasing for $1,678. The 512GB model is available for $1,858 in Canada.

I am holding my breath in anticipation of all the problems the phone will have.
Holy smokes – THAT price though….hard to swallow.
anyone asked for thinner phones?! why would they go that route
Obviously it’s because Apple is coming out out with a thin iPhone.
Watching for another “BendGate” as people will bend this thin phone and post the videos in YouTube 🙂
