Rogers Rolls Out Wi-Fi 7, Claims First in Canada
Rogers says it has become the first internet provider in Canada to roll out WiFi 7, starting with select areas in Calgary.
Wi-Fi 7 offers faster speeds, better coverage, and more stable connections for households with many devices that are compatible.
“Canadians deserve the best connectivity experience, and this is the first in a series of launches this year to bring the latest technology to more Canadians,” said Bret Leech, President, Residential, Rogers, in a statement on Monday. “WiFi 7 delivers more speed, better coverage and better adaptability for an ultra-reliable, ultra-low lag experience.”
Rogers says the upgrade will support heavy internet use, like gaming, streaming, and remote work—all happening at once. Over the past five years, home internet use in Canada has more than doubled, with more devices connected than ever before it says.
The new Rogers Xfinity router, launched in Alberta with this rollout, is their most powerful yet. It supports over 200 devices and offers download speeds of up to 4 Gbps and upload speeds of 1 Gbps on their Pro 4G plan.
For those wondering, Apple’s entire iPhone 16 lineup supports Wi‑Fi 7 (802.11be) across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, including Multi-Link Operation (MLO).
Rogers says it plans to expand WiFi 7 to more cities and areas across Canada later this year.

Yet most of Robber's plans are maxing out at 50 Mbps upload….how about you deploy DOCSIS 4.0 instead?
Ah yes… bragging about WiFi 7 is cheap talk as it's built in the gateway, Robbers didn't invest one red penny.
I had 100Mbs before now with their new modem I get 200Mbps upload, seams good enough for me,
your modem as long as it was XB7 or XB8, it supported DOCSIS 3.1 which gives you up to 200mbps if you connected via wire.
the wifi 7 won't impact your internet bandwidth and it only matters for your internal home network or your Wi-Fi internet.
the only reason you get 200Mbps is because you node supports that speed.
Most of their network does not see those speeds yet. But that's still pathetic in this day and age.
Rogers keep insisting to keep their ancient coax service and not investing enough on Fibre. Even they are not willing to upgrade their RFOG system to GPON.
when every other provider adapts to the new technology and make sure to offer fibre, Rogers is the only one who doesn't want to let go of their coax network.
Wi-Fi 7 in good when you have a symmetric gigabit connection. 50Mbps or even 200Mbps upload doesn't need Wi-Fi 7.
Just realized my 1Gbps xb7 Shaw modem is like 5 years old, I'll definitely be upgrading.
That said, it is the most reliable all-in-one router/modem I've used so far other than my old Shaw-Hitron 100mbps. I can count on a single hand how many times my Internet has been out since.
You know very well they will charge you extra for Wi-Fi 7, right? Besides, only pure fibre gives you the same upload and download speeds.
Indeed, nothing is better than pure fiber optic Internet, unfortunately a lot of us are still on good old copper wire going from the house to the street hub.
Telus pure fibre sucks
For most people this isn't necessary like it's good to have but I personally don't need it as long as I have internet wherever I am and can browse the web use Google maps and play games and music with no issue I'm good
