iPhone Sales Up in China For the First Time in Two Years

According to new Counterpoint Research data, Apple saw its iPhone sales rise in China for the first time in two years. The spike in sales occurred during the company’s second quarter of the fiscal year.

First reported by CNBCiPhone sales in China have risen by 8 percent year-on-year. Between April to June of 2025, Apple experienced the first increase in sales within China since the same quarter in 2023.

It’s said that the increase in sales was likely due to promotions in May. Counterpoint Research cites that Chinese e-commerce firms had the iPhone 16 at a discount during this period. The promotions were held around the 618 shopping festival in the country, where e-commerce retailers offer discounts on products. Apple had also increased trade-in prices for select models of iPhone.

Apple’s presence in China has been tumultuous in the past few years. Apple has progressively lost its foothold in the country due to an uptick in popularity amongst other brands, especially Huawei. Since 2023, Huawei has begun aggressively competing within the Chinese market and other international locations. In comparison, Huawei’s sales are reported to have increased by 12 percent in the second quarter, lagging behind Vivo as the dominant brand in China. Apple landed as third.

The increase in iPhone sales is likely to please investors who rode the storm, seeing stocks fall this year. Facing hurdles, Apple’s stock fell by 15 percent. This is partially due to threats that Apple may be hit by tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump, who urged Apple CEO Tim Cook to begin opening factories in the US to manufacture the iPhone. While Apple is diversifying its supply chain to India and other regions, it remains to be seen whether manufacturing will make its way to the US.
