Bell Hikes Internet Bills Again, Customers Say They’re Fed Up

Some Bell customers are sounding off online after noticing their internet bills went up for the second month in a row.

A Reddit user posted a rant saying their bill increased by $6 in May, and again by $6 in June—with no clear explanation for the back-to-back hikes.

The post sparked a wave of similar complaints. Some users said they’ve had enough and are switching providers. One said they moved to Cogeco, landing a $29.99/month fibre deal. Another left Bell for Telus and saved $50 a month.

Others who claimed to work at Bell or used to be in leadership didn’t hold back. “Bell hates you. In fact, they hate everyone,” one user commented. Another added, “Making the customer experience better in any way is seen as bad.”

While some suggested these increases might be due to expiring promotions or credits, others said the problem is deeper—they believe Bell’s business model relies on slowly hiking up prices while offering little in return.

A few users recommended alternatives like Rogers, Telus, or smaller local providers. One even said Virgin was a better option, though others pointed out Virgin is owned by Bell.

Bell recently was given the green light by the FCC in the U.S. to finalize its $5 billion purchase of Ziply Fiber, the company’s foray into the American broadband market.

You might want to check your monthly Bell billing statements to see if you’re being affected by any price increases. Let us know in the comments.

Instead of developing Internet information labels, this is what the CRTC should try to fix. As a consumer, I should be protected against arbitrary price hikes or, at the very least, those hikes should be inflation-capped.

Instead of governments offering to freeze rates, more competition is needed. That will make prices come down naturally and then the government can implement collusion laws so that companies cannot work together to raise prices together. And lastly, this company is in quebec and quebec is known to just have higher prices by default. I would never pay them any money ever.

This line has Bell nailed down to the letter.

Cogeco's subsidiary Oxio has been good for our house and rentals. We have Bell fiber to some of them, but the price is too much.

I dropped Bell a long time ago for this reason.

The same thing happened to us. I knew our promotion had ended, I assumed Bell was staggering the increases over three billing cycles instead of all at once so it wasn’t bill shock. I eventually called Bell. I was polite, patient, respectful. I asked for a new promotion, there were several and I picked the one I liked. I asked the lady at Bell if the two increases I paid could be credited back since I had agreed to a new one year contract. She said of course and it was done. Use good common sense, be patient, extremely polite, calm and at the end of the call thank them for their service. Simple. Common sense. It goes a long way.

Prior to selling to Telus, the service at Start.ca were having decent speeds, and reasonable prices, and customer service is based in Canada. so check their plans. I'd switch in a heartbeat if they had mobile service.

I can second that motion. I am on the Bell Mobility plan and will exit as soon as my contracted period expires. Bell was billing me for a device I did not have and when I discovered it put me through hell to get the charges refunded. It was as if they just didn't care that there abysmal customer service would mean I would be switching providers.

Yes, and once you leave, then there is the abysmal customer service at the other (new) company.

That is the dilema. I went from TELUS to Bell a year and a half ago because of shitty service. Out of the fryin pan, into the fire I guess.
