Apple Hits Major Milestone: 3 Billion iPhones Sold

Apple has reached another major milestone: 3 billion iPhones sold. The company revealed this stat today during its Q3 earnings call.

Apple SVP Marketing, Greg Joswiak, also said today, “3 billion iPhones sold! Thank you to everyone who’s made iPhone such an important part of their lives. I’m incredibly excited for what’s ahead!”.

Joswiak’s post on X was then reposted by CEO Tim Cook.

Apple reached 1 billion iPhones sold in July 2016, hit 2 billion in September 2021, and surpassed 3 billion by mid-2025. While it took about five years to go from 1 to 2 billion, the jump to 3 billion happened in under four years. Apple’s iPhone sales pace has been accelerating, despite iterative updates and looking the same for the past few years.

The first iPhone was released on June 29, 2007, in the United States. It launched exclusively through AT&T and marked Apple’s entry into the mobile phone market.

The original iPhone was never released in Canada. Instead, Canadians got access to the iPhone for the first time with the next-generation iPhone 3G, which launched on July 11, 2008, through Rogers (and Fido). I remember lining up outside a Rogers store that day, only for systems to crash nationwide due to so many activations.

Congratulations! As a longtime iPhone user, I've contributed to this achievement. Last week, I bought a second-hand iPhone for my grandmother, but the Apple ID was locked to owner. After trying many methods, I finally successfully unlocked it using TunesKit iPhone Unlocker. The whole process was simple and secure. With so many iPhone users these days, having a reliable unlocking solution is crucial.
