McDonald’s Canada Rewards Program Just Got Worse for Customers

McDonald’s Canada will update its MyMcDonald’s Rewards menu on September 16, 2025, adding cappuccinos and Filet-O-Fish to the lineup—but also removing many popular food items and increasing the points needed for some drinks, according to an email sent to customers and received by iPhone in Canada.

The program, which launched in 2021, originally offered a broad mix of drinks, breakfast items, burgers, and full meals at each tier.

At the lowest 2,000-point level, customers could get any size coffee or latte, hash browns, donuts, or a cone.

By 4,000 points, options included any size fries, a cheeseburger, or a sausage McMuffin. Higher tiers featured McDoubles, McFlurries, Big Macs, nuggets, Happy Meals, and multiple Extra Value Meal choices.

Under the 2025 update coming on September 16, 2025, many of those are gone. The 2,000-point tier now offers only small or medium coffees, lattes, or cappuccinos (large sizes now require 4,000 points). The 4,000-point level is limited to large drinks and large fries.

At 6,000 points, the only new food item is a Chicken Snack Wrap. The 10,000-point tier now offers just a Filet-O-Fish sandwich, and the 14,000-point tier is limited to a Filet-O-Fish Extra Value Meal.

While the new menu adds cappuccinos and the Filet-O-Fish, the overall variety has shrunk and many former best-value items now require more points.

The MyMcDonald’s Rewards program is available at participating restaurants in Canada through the McDonald’s app. Points expire six months after they are earned. The new changes are below:

New to the Rewards menu:

  • Small or medium Cappuccino for 2,000 points
  • Large Cappuccino for 4,000 points
  • Chicken Snack Wrap for 6,000 points
  • Filet-O-Fish for 10,000 points
  • Filet-O-Fish Extra Value Meal for 14,000 points

Changes to Rewards menu:

  • Small or medium Latte now for 2,000 points (Large remains at 4,000 points)
  • Large Premium Roast Coffee, Tea or Iced Coffee for 4,000 points (Small or medium remain at 2,000 points)
  • Large Fries for 6,000 points (Small or medium remain at 4,000 points)

Say good-bye to getting large fries for 4,000 points, as that was pretty popular. Now it will cost you more points to redeem free food.

The app hasn't pushed me a decent coupon for like 6 months. I won't pay full price for junk food that is getting in smaller in size all the time. Therefore, I stopped going.
And with an even worse rewards program, it only gets worse.
I hope someone from McDonald's reads this and recognizes that they are destroying their own business. Who would have thought such an iconic brand would destroy itself, but it's clear they are.

Wow, is McDonalds struggling so bad they needed to do this on top of their price hikes? Ah well, easier for me to stay on my diet 😉
