Lyft Picks Toronto for New Tech Hub — Its Biggest Move Outside the U.S.

Lyft says it will open a new technology hub in downtown Toronto in the second half of next year, marking its second-largest tech office after San Francisco.
The new location, set in the city’s financial district, will eventually house several hundred employees across engineering, product, operations, and marketing roles. Lyft says the move highlights its growing presence in Canada, where rides have increased more than 20 per cent year over year in the first half of 2025.
“We’re excited to deepen our investment in Canada with our new office in downtown Toronto,” said Jason Vogrinec, executive vice-president of Core Systems and Platforms at Lyft, in a statement on Thursday. “Our expansion in the GTA will enable us to tap into exceptional talent across engineering, product, operations, and beyond.”
Lyft launched its rideshare service in Toronto in 2017 and also operates teams in Longueuil and Montreal. The company provides the technology behind Bikeshare Toronto and other bike-share systems in Quebec.
Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development Vic Fedeli called the announcement “a vote of confidence in Ontario’s world-class workforce and innovation ecosystem.”
Alongside the expansion, Lyft says it will support local groups such as Nonnina’s Table and the Daily Bread Food Bank, as well as continue its partnerships with The King’s Trust and other national charities through its Round Up & Donate program.
Lyft’s headquarters remain in San Francisco, with offices in other North American and European cities.
