Spotify Launches Video Podcasts and Music Videos on Apple TV App

Spotify is rolling out a new, redesigned Apple TV app that’s reportedly “rebuilt from the ground up for a faster, smarter, more visual experience.” The new Apple TV experience includes support for video podcasts and music videos.

As first reported by The Vergethe new Spotify app built for tvOS is becoming accessible to some users. However, it’s expected that the software will be released widely to more users by mid-November. Once accessible, users will be able to watch video podcasts and music videos where accessible.

Video podcasts have been readily supported for quite some time. On the new Spotify tvOS app, users will be able to control the playback speed of the video as well as other controls while watching. The interface is quite similar to the one found on the iOS version.

As for music videos, the feature is currently not available in Canada or the US. However, music videos are available to 97 global markets. There’s a limited library of music videos available for Spotify Premium subscribers. Though when available, users can hit the ‘Switch to Video’ option to bring up the music video to a song they’re currently listening to.

The new Spotify tvOS app is also adding access to Spotify DJ, which leverages AI to curate personalized playlists and recommendations. All of this is drawn from the user’s listening history. Previously, Spotify brought this feature to Fire TV devices. Now, it’ll be available to Apple TV users as well.

Finally, the tvOS app is getting support for other mobile app features like seamless playback, song lyrics, and queue management. While using the Apple TV app, users will be able to control playback using a smartphone or tablet that’s tethered via Spotify Connect.
