Public Mobile Quietly Offers a $34 Unlimited Data Plan Again
Telus-owned Public Mobile is rolling out a new $34 plan with 60GB of 5G data, with nationwide unlimited talk and text, and unlimited data at reduced speed once the high-speed limit is reached. Bringing back what it first offered when 5G plans were announced in May of 2023.
The plan, offering speeds up to 250 Mbps on 5G, isn’t listed on Public Mobile’s website. Instead, it’s being quietly offered to existing customers who log in and select “Change Subscription” in their account.
Check it out below from our screenshot:
Normally, once you use up your data bucket on Public Mobile, data will stop working unless you purchase more. But once you’ve used up your 60GB of 5G data in this plan, you can continue using unlimited data, but speeds drop to a maximum of 512 Kbps. That’s faster than what rival discount carriers offer when throttling data.
For comparison:
- Chatr (Rogers) slows users to 128 Kbps once their 4G data runs out, affecting even light apps like email or browsing.
- Lucky Mobile (Bell) also drops speeds to 128 Kbps, though customers can buy extra data “Service Passes” if they need more high-speed usage.
- Public Mobile (Telus) allows continued data use at 512 Kbps, enough for basic browsing, messaging, and some low-quality streaming.
Public Mobile says speeds may vary based on device, network conditions, and other factors.
The move puts Public Mobile in line with competitors that have long offered “unlimited” plans with throttled data. Again, this unlimited data plan is only available for some existing users and it’s not on its website. But maybe it’s a sign of things to come? Black Friday is just around the corner, folks.
Other changes we noticed today? Public Mobile’s website now lists the amount you get back from Public Points into a percentage instead of a dollar amount. So the plans page now shows 2% instead of something like “$0.80/mo in Public Points”. You may recall back in August, Public Mobile slashed points back rate from 5% down to 2%.
Update: Public Mobile first offered unlimited 5G data plans back in 2023, but they disappeared. This is the emergence of an unlimited data plan again.

This plan was actually available earlier this year as well. Was great for my summer vacation!
Nice! 👍🏻 If they brought it back for Black Friday, I’d sign up in a heartbeat!
Do you guys even do any research? Public Mobile offered unlimited plans for months but then discontinued them. This plan in particular was also recently offered for a limited time.

One of the better deals we have seen over the last 12 months since inflation really kicked into high gear.
For perspective, the best deal last year (which was only available as a winback offer for former Public Mobile / Koodo / Telus customers) was 200GB plus unlimited 512kbps data Canada US coverage with a free Samsung S24FE and Galaxy Watch for approx $40ish a month.
How bad is 250Mbps for every day use? I have more data than I ever need a month, so proper speed matters to me more.
On a cellphone, 250 Mbps is more than enough, honestly.
