Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z TriFold, But Not Available in Canada

Samsung has announced the Galaxy Z TriFold, a smartphone that folds twice to create a huge 10-inch display. The device launches December 12 in Korea and will expand to markets including China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE and the United States. Unfortunately for Canadian Samsung fans, Canada is not part of the first rollout.
While Apple has yet to release its first foldable iPhone, Samsung is moving ahead with a trifold design aimed at users who want a portable device that can act like a small tablet. When fully opened, the Galaxy Z TriFold’s 10-inch screen provides space for multitasking, document work and video viewing. The phone folds inward in two places, and the display is reinforced with new materials to handle the dual-hinge layout.
The device is 3.9 mm thick at its thinnest point and uses Samsung’s latest foldable hardware. Power comes from a customized Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip, a 5,600 mAh three-cell battery and up to 45W wired charging.

The Galaxy Z TriFold features a 200 MP main camera with OIS, a 12 MP ultrawide, and a 10 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, plus 2x optical-quality zoom via its adaptive sensor and up to 30x digital zoom with AI enhancement.
Samsung says the hinge structure has been redesigned so the panels close with a minimal gap, and the housing uses titanium and aluminum for additional rigidity. It’ll be interesting to see how long this hinge and folding holds up long term in regards to durability.
On the software side, the large screen supports running multiple apps at once, including three portrait-sized windows side-by-side. Samsung DeX is built into the phone without needing an external display, allowing several workspaces to run at the same time with connectivity available for a mouse and keyboard. The device also includes Samsung’s latest AI features for editing, translations and on-screen assistance.

For viewing, the 10-inch display is designed for streaming and reading, while the outer screen supports up to a 120 Hz refresh rate and goes up to 2600 nits on the cover display and 1600 nits on the main display. Samsung says with the big screen, you can now watch YouTube videos and read comments side-by-side. They are clearly reading the room on who this is for.
The company says the reduced crease and thin profile make it easier to carry than earlier large-format foldables.
The Galaxy Z TriFold will only be available in select regions at launch, with no timeline for Canada. Buyers in supported countries receive a six-month Google AI Pro trial and a one-time 50 percent discount on display repair.
So what about Galaxy Z TriFold pricing? It’s priced at KRW 3,590,400 in South Korea, which works out to just under $2,500 US. With current exchange rates, that works out to a cool $3,500 CAD for a smartphone before taxes.
