Spotify Music Videos Now in Beta in Canada and the US

Spotify is rolling out music video support in beta to Premium users across Canada and the US starting today. As part of this rollout, users will be able to watch a small collection of music videos across iOS, Android, TV and through the desktop app.
Last year, Spotify introduced music videos in beta to many other global markets. Sadly, Canada and the US were left waiting for access to this feature. Starting today, Premium members in both markets can access music videos from artists like Ariana Grande, Olivia Dean, BABYMONSTER, Addison Rae, Tyler Childers, Natanael Cano, and Carín León.
When navigating Spotify, you can select a supported track and tap the ‘Switch to video’ option. Here, the music video will start playing right where the song left off. Hitting the ‘Switch to audio’ tab will resume the playback of the song for background listening. Spotify is also offering a full-screen experience. On mobile, users will have to turn the device to landscape orientation to have the music video fill the screen. On a TV or the desktop app, this will be the default.
Premium users can also discover new music videos available to view through the ‘Related Music Videos’ option on the page. Additionally, users can go to an artist’s profile and look under the ‘Music’ tab. Spotify is also supporting music video playlists by genre and era. Users can find playlists such as 90s Video Hits or Latin Party Vibes.
According to a recent Burson survey, more than 70% of users say more video content would enhance their experience on Spotify. The company states that after a fan engages with a musician’s music video, they’re more likely to do a deep dive on the artist. When a user discovers a track with a music video, they are 34 percent more likely to stream it again.
Music videos will be available to all Premium subscribers in the U.S. and Canada by the end of December. As of December 9th, Spotify is also expanding to Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Uganda, and Venezuela.
